According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the country's crime rate has decreased dramatically as a result of increased police presence.
According to the president, increased visibility has improved traffic safety and made communities safer.
President Akufo-Addo stated during the handover of 100 Toyota Hilux Pick Ups and 600 motorcycles to the Police Service that the government will continue to help the police in their efforts to eradicate crime in the country.
"We are all witnesses to the rise in police visibility which has led to enhanced police response time. One of the areas where the police have made significant progress is instilling discipline on our roadways."
The Formed Police Units (FPUs) in all parts of the country will employ the one hundred (100) pickup vehicles, six hundred (600) motorbikes, and six (6) APC vehicles.
The FPU was previously exclusively stationed in Accra.
But, with government assistance, the Unit was expanded to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region and is currently being developed in all other areas. This specialized unit's services will soon be available in all parts of the country.
These Regional FPUs will be scattered among 140 bases in diverse villages around the regions. Without a doubt, their presence will significantly improve the country's security, law and order.
"All of these are evidence, if any were required, of the Government's dedication to the constant retooling of the Police, a task my government takes very seriously," the President concluded.
"It stems from the fact that the police play an important part in the development of our nation, therefore the need to guarantee that the Police Service is appropriately resourced to execute its obligations for the protection and security of all of us, as well as the expansion of economic activity."
