Incumbent member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency, Hon John Peter Amewu is set to file his nomination to contest as the Member of Parliament for the Constituency. The filing ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 Pm on Monday 9th of September 2024 at the Electoral Commission office in Hohoe. The Minister for Railway Development will accompanied by Party Executives, supporters, family and friends. His quest to run for a second term as a Member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency will officially begin on Monday as he submits his nomination forms to the Electoral Commission. JP as he is affectionately known is the only candidate to win a seat as a member of Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party in the Volta Region* since 1992
He won the 2020 General Elections seat to succeed Bernice Adiku Heloo of the National Democratic Congress. Hon.John- Peter Amewu polled 26,952 votes representing 55.26% while his contender Margaret Kweku polled 21,821 votes representing 44.74% in the 2020 Parliamentary election. He has served as Minister of Energy and Minister for Lands And Natural Resources in President Akufo Addo's administration. Hon. Amewu serves as a member of the Cabinet as well as a member of the Privileges and the Mines and Energy Committees in Parliament in his first term as a legislator.
