SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT CALLS OUT MP'S CONNECTED TO GALAMSEY

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alaban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has called out members of Parliament who are one way or the other involved in illegal mining( GALAMSEY) to desist from it. "As the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana, I emphasize that the tone at the top is crucial in addressing the galamsey menace" "Small-scale mining has been a part of our tradition for centuries, but it's the greed and recklessness of those with influence and resources such as excavators and questionable permits that are destroying our forests and environment for their insatiable wealth". "As leaders, we must acknowledge that some individuals within our circles are perpetuating illegal mining activities. We need to set the right tone and take a firm stance against galamsey. I urge my fellow MPs and leaders at all levels to join me in condemning and combating this destructive practice". "Let us work together to protect our environment and ensure a sustainable future for our nation. The tone at the top must be firm and resolute: zero tolerance for galamsey and illegal mining". Rt Hon. Bagbin made this call in Parliament as the House debated on the matter. #StopGalamsey #ProtectOurEnvironment #LeadershipMatters Story By Collins Boateng (Cabman) for VOV News
