FDA CLAMPS DOWN ON "FAKE" PRODUCT VENDORS

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has moved to clamp down on unapproved products in circulation on the Ghanaian market. This move forms part of the Authority's intensified surveillance efforts to rid the markets of products without approval. The task force has so far seized several unapproved products circulating in the Ghanaian market. The FDA has also sanctioned over 100 manufacturing companies across the country from January to date for advertising unapproved products.

The team lead for Market Surveillance, James Aboakye, during a recent operation with the media, urged the public to be vigilant so as not to fall prey to these unscrupulous people who sell unapproved products. He advised consumers to carefully check details on products, including food, medicine, personal care items like shower gels, and others, to ensure they meet FDA standards. The FDA conducts market surveillance activities, daily, and based on the intelligence they gather, they visit districts in different locations and conduct the exercise in different facilities, pharmacies, marts, and shops to confirm that they are selling goods or products that are regulated by the FDA.
