Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister, is scheduled to speak before Parliament on Thursday, February 16, 2023, to inform the house on the government's Domestic Debt Exchange scheme.
This follows a direction by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to the House Business Committee to call the Finance Minister to present a policy brief on the program in light of the continuous picketing outside the Finance Ministry by elderly bondholders seeking an exemption from the scheme.
In delivering the business statement for the next week, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin said it was vital for the Minister to appear before Parliament to answer issues brought by constituents of members of the House.
Since its launch, the scheme has met fierce resistance from various organisations and people.
The Ministry of Finance, on the other hand, claims to have received a significant response for involvement.
Meanwhile, members of the Pensioner Bondholders Association, who are seeking an exemption, have stated that they would be present in Parliament to watch the proceedings.
"We had information that Parliament was attempting to summon the minister. We've also learned that the meeting will take place on Thursday. Because we will not converge on the day, we will go to Parliament to check what is going on," stated Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, Convenor of the Pensioner Bondholders.
