Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, has revealed government plans to provide free electronic tablets to all Senior High School (SHS) students across the country.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the move is part of the government's digitalization strategy.
According to the Vice President, the tablet will be used as an alternate textbook for pupils.
The Vice President was addressing at the University of Ghana, Legon, during this year's New Year School.
"This year, we are on course to equip every Senior High School pupils in Ghana with tablets which are loaded with textbooks on them for their study. This is a game-changing development. Past questions will be placed on the tablets that will be provided."
The government previously announced a cooperation with local publishers to launch the campaign.
There are also plans to provide free internet to senior high schools and tertiary institutions in order to boost teaching and learning.
As part of the initiative, the government has already granted the contract for the first batch of Wi-Fi installations, which will commence in select secondary and higher institutions.
