To the people of Dome Kwabenya, Adwoa Safo said, "I'll still be your MP."

Sarah Adwoa Safo, the member of parliament (MP) representing the Dome Kwabenya seat, has stated her wish to continue serving in the House despite being threatened with expulsion.

The MP remarked Sunday at the Pentecost Church in Taifa that God had provided for her family and that "Taifa was where she belonged."

Adwoa Safo continued, "I know I'll be back, and I will still be your Member of Parliament."

She has drawn criticism for her ongoing absences from the nation.

The MP requested a leave of absence from her then-ministerial position as the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection in 2021 while she has been living in the US for the past year.

The Adwoa Safo's future will be discussed by lawmakers on the floor of the House of Commons.

The politician refused to provide an explanation for her extended absence from the House, despite efforts by the Parliament's Privileges Committee.

The committee's recommendations on whether her seat should be declared vacant after being absent without permission for longer than the required 15 days fell short of unanimous support.

On the House of Commons floor, legislators will consider the future of the Adwoa Safo.

The Parliament's Privileges Committee tried to get the legislator to explain why she had been absent from the House for such a long time, but she refused.

She had been absent without authorization for more than the statutory 15 days, but the committee's recommendations on whether her seat should be declared empty fell short of a unanimous vote.
