In the Kwaebiberem municipality, cocoa estates were turned into galamsey pits.

Large trenches from unlawful small-scale mining have been left on cocoa estates in the Kwaebiberem district.

According to locals, unidentified individuals came from outside the village to prospect and ultimately devastate the area through their illicit mining operations.

Some of the nearby pits had been abandoned for as long as eight years.

Despite the rhetoric of the government against illegal mining, there were still miners operating in this region.

Excavators were observed removing trees to make way for gold mining.

The River Pram in the district has been badly polluted and diverted as a result of the illegal mining.

For many people living in the area, the river served as their primary source of drinking water.

Their scream is how to get water for their domestic tasks now that this water is no longer available, a resident remarked.

Residents said that mining had a disastrous impact on the River Pram.

The miners always try to dig inside the river because they think it to be a fantastic river where they may find a lot of gold.

The indigenous people's holy portion of the forest had also been desecrated by the illegal miners.

They think there is no spirit in the water once more since it is being poisoned. The gods are no longer living in the water again because of the mining activity, a local claimed.
