The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) leadership has threatened to start an industrial action within the next ten days if the government does not fulfil the members' outstanding Codified Conditions of Service, which have been unfulfilled since 2016.
The National Labour Commission's decision on the topic was brazenly ignored, according to the TUTAG leadership, who also criticized the NLC for failing to implement the decision.
TUTAG claims that its members are having issues with the payroll system and want several Technical Universities to take over the management of the teachers' salaries.
The Association further requests that the Government cover the majority of its members' unpaid Book and Research Allowances for the academic year 2021–2022.
Professor Dr. Ing Collins Ameyaw, the national president of TUTAG, stated during a news conference in Kumasi that the organization would be forced to go on strike if the government did not take immediate action to address its issues.
"TUTAG has noted the government's flagrant disdain for the National Labour Commission's judgements as well as the NLC's resistance to uphold its own decisions. It is important to highlight that the problem of codified terms of service for TUTAG members has not been resolved as of yet, according to Dr. Ameyaw.
Dr. Ameyaw stated that the Finance Minister has disregarded the NLC judgement despite repeated follow-ups on the ruling by the NLC to ensure that what is legitimately owed to them is paid.
