Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay sees nothing wrong with his law firm defending several Chinese citizens accused of unlawful mining offenses who are being tried with En Huang, also known as Aisha Huang.
According to Mr. Blay, it is the duty of his firm to defend people who they feel are not guilty of the accusations made against them.
According to Freddie Blay, his political affiliation shouldn't interfere with his legal practice.
"Some people have the wrong impression, I'm sorry. My law firm's representation of them does not imply that the government endorses or participates in illegal mining. We all support initiatives to combat galamsey. I personally oppose galamsey.
This is not to say that defense of innocent individuals is inappropriate. Let's await the court's ruling. In the end, we will discover the truth—that my clients are innocent—and we will be relieved. They are not involved in galamsey and have committed no crimes.
