The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has urged contending groups in Bawku to halt their clashes with military troops.
The petition comes after allegations that the military killed seven people in Bawku, Upper East Region.
The Ghana Armed Forces have denied the charge made by the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.
The military, on the other hand, said that they confronted some armed persons and successfully neutralized six people.
"In a separate incident, intermittent gunfire was heard in the Sabongari General Area. A Patrol Team sent to examine the situation noticed unknown armed guys wearing black T-shirts with black hoodies on the Gozesi-Valley side of Sabongari. Troops confronted them and successfully neutralized six (6) armed guys. During the fight, several armed guys sought shelter in a nearby mud house to engage the Team," the Ghana Armed Forces stated in a statement.
However, addressing to media, the Chairman of the Security Council, Stephen Yakubu, asked everyone in Bawku to be quiet and allow peace a chance to flourish.
"I'd want to urge through this means to give peace a chance since Bawku is nearly dead, and I'm quite concerned."
