At KIA, updated COVID-19 protocols are now in force.

Following a spike in COVID-19 cases in China, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) will start implementing the updated measures at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) as of today, January 6, 2023.

All air travelers arriving from China will now be required to show a negative PCR COVID test result that is not more than 48 hours old, in accordance with the updated protocols.

When the travelers arrive at the airport, they will also take another free exam.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, stated that this is now vital to prevent a rise of COVID-19 cases in Ghana.

We presume that there is a threat coming from China, thus whether you have had a vaccination or not if you are coming from China, we will test you to confirm this. Therefore, it is the change we're attempting to implement.

"We are attempting to address the unease surrounding China, so over time, when we realize that the cases are similar, they won't be distinct from what is occurring. That is why we implemented the updated standards, according to Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe.
