The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has instructed its border town customs divisions to enforce the restriction on the export of grains and soy beans.
Grain and soybeans are to be sold to local customers instead, according to a communiqué sent to station heads in Tatale, Wonjuga, Bunkpurugu, and Saboba by the assistant commissioner of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
As Russia's conflict with Ukraine disrupted the world's food supply chains, the government extended a restriction on the export of some grains, including rice and maize, in May of this year to maintain food security.
The restriction was supposed to cease at the end of March after going into force in September 2021, however it was postponed until September 2022 instead.
The initial prohibition was implemented to make sure that there were enough grains available domestically to increase the production of domestic poultry and cattle.
