On November 30, 2022, the National Labour Commission (NLC) is anticipated to have a meeting with the heads of the public university labor unions that are currently on strike.
Union members have been on strike for more than three weeks because, in their opinion, the government has failed to uphold the agreed-upon conditions of employment.
The implementation of the GH10.99 modified ex-pump rate, which will effect vehicle maintenance and off-campus allowances, has alarmed the unions.
Dr. Asare Asante Annor, National Secretary of the University Teachers Association of Ghana, spoke on behalf of the unions and stated they were prepared to meet with the administration.
"So, we will meet on November 30, 2022. We were originally scheduled to meet two weeks ago, but we were unable to do so since both the employer and TUTAG wanted some kind of extension. We haven't been able to hold any meetings during the past two weeks, so we haven't been able to find a way to break the deadlock.
"The variances in the service conditions, particularly the lack of vehicle maintenance, are the reasons why we still wish to engage. Therefore, if the government can arrange distribution, we will be glad, and I'm sure our members will be happy too, said Dr. Annor.
University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Senior Staff Association (SSA), and Teachers and Educational Workers' Union are among the numerous labor unions on strike (TEWU).
