Mahama laments Kwesi Botchwey: "We danced "Buga" during your birthday party."

John Dramani Mahama, a former president, expressed astonishment at the passing of Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, a former finance minister.

In a Facebook post in memory of the late finance minister, Mr. Mahama recalled dancing to the hit dance tune "Buga" by Nigerian singer Kizz Daniel at Dr. Botchwey's 78th birthday celebration.

Dr. Botchwey had dutifully served his "God, country, and the NDC party, and now it was time to have a rest," Mr. Mahama continued.

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, Dr. Botchwey passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. He was 78 years old.

Dr. Botchwey first held the position of finance minister under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) during its military rule from 1982 to 1991, and then again under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during its constitutional rule from 1992 to 1995.

He served as Ghana's finance minister the longest.
