Gabby 'begs' NDC MPs: let's do this for Ghana. The 2023 budget is critical.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a senior NPP member, has made a plea to the Minority caucus to work with the Majority to ensure that the 2023 budget is read and approved without incident.

On November 24, when the 2023 budget is scheduled to be presented to Parliament by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, MPs of the Minority and Majority sides have given notice that they will not attend.

On Tuesday, the NPP Council of Elders and National Executives intervened to break the standoff between the NPP Majority Caucus members and the President over the demands for the dismissal of the Finance Minister.

The Majority MPs were advised to hold off on making new demands until the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout negotiations are finished in a statement jointly signed by the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Koduah.

Mr. Otchere-Darko, who is also President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-cousin, Addo's stated in a tweet on Wednesday that the country's efforts to increase revenue depend on the adoption of the 2023 budget.

The budget for 2022 is due on Thursday. It cannot experience the same fate as the 2022 budget and its revenue-generating measures. If not approved, it might altogether halt talks with the Fund. The metrics for revenue generation are essential to this. For Ghana, we implore the NDC to join the NPP in this.
