Ken Ofori-replacement Atta's as finance minister will not be sufficient, according to former president John Mahama.
Normally, the Vice President is in charge of the economic management team, but the former President wants President Akufo-Addo to "reconstitute and take control of the economic management team himself."
In his speech on the state of the economy, Mr. Mahama declared that the Finance Minister's position was currently precarious.
Mr. Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, had both been recommended for expulsion by some Majority MPs.
The President requested more time so that he could finish the arrangement with the International Monetary Fund and the 2023 budget in response to pressure from members of his own party to replace Mr. Ofori-Atta.
But Mr. Mahama thinks the President's plea lacks merit.
Budget planning and IMF talks are the outcomes of partnership. They are not the creation of a single person. I don't see how the minister's absence will effect the budget-preparation process or the talks with the International Monetary Fund.
The former President said, "There must be individuals with the necessary experience in the NPP to carry out this mission.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, must be held accountable for the economic situation in Ghana, according to the Minority in Parliament, which is attempting to advance a move for a vote of censure against the Finance Minister.
