GNAT asks school leaders to speak up about issues.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) demands that authorities stop what it describes as unwarranted intimidation of school administrators who discuss issues facing their schools.

According to GNAT, intimidation is having a negative impact on studying and teaching in numerous Senior High Schools (SHS) across the nation.

The President of GNAT, Reverend Isaac Owusu, said such practices must halt while speaking at the Conference of Heads of Assisted Second Cycle Schools' 60th Anniversary celebration in Koforidua.

"We witness persons in authority abusing and intimidating secondary school heads when they wish to speak about issues. The Minister claims that we should raise confident kids, but the pain is that we are unable to have tame headteachers raise confident children. We firmly believe that the days of intimidation are behind us.

Second-cycle schools have recently faced problems with food scarcity, a lack of teaching and learning resources, and other obstacles.

The Free Senior High School Policy's implementation has mostly been held responsible for the issues.

However, there have been worries that school administrators are being intimidated to keep secret the operational challenges their institutions are encountering.

To stop their colleagues from doing similarly, certain angry school heads who could not handle the difficulties and made comments in the media were dealt with.
