GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES 10 BILLION CEDIS AS RELIEF FOR FARMERS AFFECTED BY DRY SPELL



The Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Amin Adam, has announced that the government has allocated 8 billion Ghana Cedis to provide relief and some mitigative measures for the farmers affected by the dry spell. The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Honourable Bryan Acheampong also highlighted a series of measures that the Government has put in place to lessen the effects of the current dry spell on farmers. Hon. Bryan Acheampong stated that the Government has decided to provide financial support of GHS 1,000 per hectare to vulnerable farmers as partial cover for their investment losses. The measures include a temporary ban on the export of grains from Ghana. The Defense Minister, Hon.Dominic Nitiwul also assured that the government has deployed and intensified security across the borders to prevent the export of grains from the country. These interventions were announced at the meet the press briefings facilitated by the Ministry of Information moderated by Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar, the Minister for Information.
