commuters fear a future increase in transportation costs

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), which will announce the proposed increase in transportation rates today, Monday, October 24, 2022, has angered some users of public transportation.

Thus, they are pleading with the government to take action.

Following discussions with the government on Thursday, the GPRTU declared its intention to raise rates by around 40% in response to the recent increase in the cost of petroleum products.

"The increase in transportation costs will hurt us because worker salaries have not recently increased. God's grace is the only thing keeping us alive. One passenger complains that the proposed upward adjustment is too high.

Another passenger pleaded, "If government can cut fuel prices, we will be okay because we are suffering too much."

As of this morning at 7am, VIP JEOUN has announced new transportation prices for the general public.

Accra-Kumasi fare, which was formerly GH85, is now GH100, while Accra-Sunyani fare is now GH130.

Also required is GH240 for those traveling from Accra to Tamale.
