The attitude of some teacher unions toward Dr. Eric Nkansah's appointment as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has been deemed unsatisfactory by the Ministry of Education (GES).
The Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng, responded to the charges made by the teacher unions by saying that the teachers' position is disrespectful and should not be tolerated.
"It's not amusing. We are shocked and it is really insulting to the leader of the country, President Akufo-Addo," Mr. Kwarteng added.
The spokeswoman continued, "We believed the union leaders should have known better.
Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa was succeeded as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service by Dr. Eric Nkansah.
The new Director General of the GES is not a licensed teacher, making him unqualified for the position, according to the four teacher unions, who criticized the selection at a press conference on Thursday.
He works as a banker. He has not progressed in the teaching profession, according to NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu.
