Food vendors have complained about the market's ongoing price rises for food products.

According to reports, the cost of 25 liters of cooking oil increased from GH 380 to GH 1000 during the past three months.

A carton of chicken has increased in price from GH125 per 10 kg in July to GH300, while the price of a 25 kg bag of rice has increased dramatically from GH195 last year to GH390.


The price of a carton of frozen chicken has increased from GH260 to GH300. One seller remarked, "I would have bought a lot for storage if I had known it was going to be increased, but there isn't money to even make that big buy."

According to some food sellers interviewed, they just exist to maintain their clientele.

Another commented, "I am unable to raise prices, so it is simply a modest margin that I have added to keep my consumers."

According to data from the Ghana Statistical Service, food inflation in September 2022 was 37.8%, while non-food inflation was 36.8%.


While prices for imported goods increased by 40.7%, prices for locally manufactured goods increased by 35.8%.

The highest food inflation was found in the Western Region (47.0%), whereas the highest non-food inflation was found in the Eastern Region (42.0%). The Greater Accra Region (39.3%), Western Region (40.2%), and Eastern Region (41.0%) all had the highest inflation rates overall.

In the Eastern Region, transportation experienced the highest rate of inflation (68.7%), whereas in the Western Region, fish and other seafood experienced the highest rate of inflation (64.0%).

More than 90% of the sampled items experienced a price increase.
