Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is requesting that the Daily Newspaper retract the article and issue an apology for it.
In a statement made through his attorneys, Mr. Nketiah claims that the article titled "NDC won't stop galamsey" that appeared in the newspaper on Tuesday, October 18 and was in response to an interview on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM is not only inaccurate but also "maliciously published to portray our client and the NDC as promoters and champions of the illegality."
"Given that your whole narrative on page 6 of the aforementioned newspaper did not have any excerpt to directly or indirectly support your claims, it is evident that the false and malicious attribution and publication of same were done to harm the reputation of our client.
The lawyers explained the difficulties and said that their client did not advocate illicit mining but rather denounced it and its catastrophic effects on the environment, demonstrating the NDC's readiness to implement sustainable mining if won in the general elections in 2024.
Therefore, the journal has been given 72 hours to retract and apologize by the NDC chief scribe.
Additionally, he is requesting that the retraction and apology receive the same amount of front-page exposure and prominence as the publication of the misleading and nasty headline.
According to Mr. Nketiah's attorneys, if the newspaper doesn't comply with his demands, they will have no choice but to "take all necessary procedures, including instituting a legal action to defend our client's image and reputation from the false and nasty publishing."
