The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has chastised the government for failing to give due regard to former President John Evans Atta Mills.
He contends that the fact that the Late President’s name is missing from the bust unveiled at his burial site at Asomdwee park but has that of other persons is disappointing, to say the least.
“This morning’s press conference is to demand from Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his associates such as Koku Anyidoho to do what is right and appropriate and to remind them that the office of the former President is an institutional office.”
“We are very disappointed at the attempts to sow seeds of conflict and to hurt the grieving family. Professor Mills exemplified humility and modesty.”
Apart from the omission of Atta Mills’ name, there has been a controversy surrounding the tomb of former President John Atta Mills and his 10th anniversary, which the Cape Coast Twidan family of the late President boycotted.
Members of the family said they were not officially invited to the event which took place at the Asomdwee park on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
A few days to the anniversary, Samuel Atta Mills, the brother of the former President, alleged that Prof. Atta Mills’ tomb had been tampered with, a claim the government denied.
Former President John Mahama has described the current controversy surrounding the tomb as needless.
