Mussa Dankwa, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, claims that a nationwide survey performed by his organization shows that former President John Mahama will certainly defeat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other candidates in the 2024 presidential elections.
Mr. Dankwa stated that the survey predicted John Mahama to win in all areas save the Ashanti and Eastern Regions, which are strongholds of the NPP.
He further stated that Mahama may be unable to make gains into the Northern and North East Regions.
Mr. Dankwa stated that "apart from the Northern and North East Regions, where [Mahamudu] Bawumia leads [John] Mahama head-to-head, it is tough for the NPP elsewhere."
"It's bad in the Central and Western Regions," Mr. Dankwa said. Even if the NPP is leading in Greater Accra, the figures in the Ashanti Region are not outstanding. The NPP candidate and John Mahama are practically neck and neck."
"Things don't seem good across the board, but something is occurring in the Northern Region. This is the third time we've seen something happen in the Northern Region, and we feel John Mahama might lose the Northern Region while still winning the polls," he continued.
Mr. Dankwa informed the show's presenter, Selorm Adonoo, that the dynamics and reasons for voting patterns in 2024 will be similar to past years, since religion and ethnicity are likely to play a big role.
According to the study, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is popular among Muslims in the Northern and North East Regions but does badly nationally.
"He [Mahamudu Bawumia] is gaining ethnic and religious backing. If we dive down to the Muslim votes in the Northern Region, we can see that Bawumia is performing well, but not nationwide."
He said that Bawumia is performing poorly nationwide among Muslim voters because he is perceived to be leaning more toward Christianity than Islam.
Mr. Dankwa further stated that national surveys show John Mahama leading all ethnic groupings except the Akans.
He also hinted that a sizable number of disgruntled New Patriotic Party supporters may vote for Mahama.
"There are many dissatisfied NPP supporters, and when you ask them who they are going to vote for, they say John Mahama, and we observed that roughly 30% of people who voted for President Akufo-Addo will vote for John Mahama if we go to the elections."
