Fifi Kwetey defends developments in Parliament and refutes charges of a lack of consultation.

Despite criticism from its own members, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has justified the shake-up in its leadership in Parliament.

According to the party, the choice is appropriate and works best for communal rather than individual interests.

Many people have been surprised by the dismissal of Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader, claiming that the party failed to extensively consult in order to establish a consensus, accusing the leadership of making a unilateral decision.

However, NDC General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey dismissed such claims, stating that those who mattered were called for the essential contributions.

"This conclusion was made after extensive consultation. That dialogue was carried out, according to the party's top leadership. In terms of parliamentary consultation, the group that is generally consulted has been consulted."

"What needed to be done regarding this reshuffling was done and the people appropriately consulted. All of the important decision-makers have been consulted. Former President Mahama was consulted, and his thoughts were taken into account. "Both new and old leaders were informed and consulted," he stated emphatically.

Several NDC MPs, notably Dominic Ayine, MP for Bolgatanga East, and Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central, have branded the leadership changes as undemocratic and extremely concerning, owing to the lack of engagement with the Minority caucus.

Former Majority Leader Cletus Avoka has also called on the party to reconsider the decision immediately, calling it unpopular and sad.

Some NDC supporters in Tamale South have also issued the party with a 24-hour deadline to reverse the decision or face their wrath.

In response, Fifi Kwetey stated that the decision has been made and would not be changed.

He stated that when Parliament reconvenes in February, the party would proceed with the leadership changes.

"The highest level of the party's leadership has made a choice, and that is exactly what it is. You cannot create a precedent in which choices made by the party's leadership become a matter for the caucus. The party's leadership in Parliament is appointed by the party's leadership. It is not something that is done by the caucus of the party".
