For travelers traveling to Ghana during the Christmas season, the Transport Ministry has implemented a visa-on-arrival procedure.
The move is part of the 'Beyond the Return' push to recruit more immigrants.
This implies that visitors to Ghana are not required to get a visa before entering the country.
The visas might be given to them upon arrival, and the policy will be in place from December 22, 2022 to January 15, 2023.
In a statement to all airlines, the Ministry stated that this decision was made after talks with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Tourism, as well as the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
"Permission has been granted for travelers traveling to Ghana to opt for visa-on-arrival, which eliminates the need for previous authorisation."
"As a result, it would be welcomed if systems were updated to reflect this new arrangement, and employees in charge of checking in passengers flying to Ghana were encouraged not to insist on entrance permits prior to their boarding," the communiqué stated.
The 'Beyond the Return' Initiative is a 10-year plan aimed to build on the momentum of the 'Year of Return' effort, which honored the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first known enslaved Africans in Virginia in 1619.
It is themed 'A Decade of African Renaissance (2020-2030)' and is comprised of seven pillars aimed at highlighting the country's investment potential and solidifying its diaspora outreach programs.
The plan has sparked great interest among Africans in the Diaspora, with a substantial number of them visiting and/or relocating to Ghana since 2019.
