On Saturday, November 5, 2022, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led Ghana's delegation to the World Leaders' Summit of the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP 27), which is taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Parties will come together at the COP 27 Summit, one of the biggest gatherings of world leaders, to speed up efforts toward the Paris Agreement targets of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The President will make a statement outlining Ghana's stance on climate change and the steps taken to mitigate the threat it poses.
Additionally, he will participate in the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Summit, which is taking place in conjunction with COP 27, and make five (5) different speeches on the efforts Ghana is making to safeguard its forests and oceans, on sustainable energy, and on the energy transition.
As part of the agenda for Ghana's Presidency of the Council for the month of November 2022, President Akufo-Addo will preside over the High-Level UN Security Council debate in New York on November 10, 2022.
The President was attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP, Shirley Ayorkor Botchey, and Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Hon. The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Dr. Kwaku Afriyie; MP Samuel A. Jinapor, as well as a representative of the Foreign Ministry and the Presidency.
On Friday, November 11, 2022, the President will return to Ghana. In his absence, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, will act in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
