The Special Prosecutor's investigation into alleged corruption in connection with illegal small-scale mining has the support of Ken Ashigbey, convener of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining.
It's crucial, according to Mr. Ashigbey, that the Special Prosecutor conducts a thorough investigation.
The system is "full of cases and difficulties that unquestionably have corruption flaws," he said.
In addition, Mr. Ashigbey urged Ghanaians to support the Special Prosecutor's efforts in this area as the nation continues to be devastated by unlawful small-scale mining.
"It's great that the OSP [Office of the Special Prosecutor] is involved, and we should support the OSP in this. We require complete transparency in this situation.
The only way, Mr. Ashigbey continued, "we would be able to save ourselves from this quick drive towards the extension we are on."
The investigation will focus on certain Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources officials, the Forestry Commission, as well as the actions and expenses of the disbanded Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, according to the Special Prosecutor (IMCIM).
In particular, the Special Prosecutor stated that the probe will cover the active and ongoing inquiry into claims of Charles Bissue's use of public authority for profit while working at the IMCIM to a Tiger Eye P.I. investigative video titled Galamsey Fraud Part I.
