IMF Officials are Expected in Ghana on Wednesday to Start Bail-out Talks with the Government

Some officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrive in Ghana on Wednesday, the 6th of July 2022 to commence negotiations with the Ghanaian government on the bail-out the Akufo-Addo-led administration is seeking.

The group is anticipated to meet officers of the Finance Ministry, the Economic Management Team, and the Presidency in the course of their stay in the West African country.

The Ministry of Information on Friday, July 1, 2022, announced that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had authorized Ghana to start engagements with the IMF for a bailout.

The ministry stated the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta will be leading the negotiations from the Ghanaian side with the IMF in the coming days.

This information has been greeted with mixed feelings, as it comes after the Akufo-Addo-led administration had on many occasions promised in no way to go underneath an IMF programme.

The team from the IMF  will consist of senior officers from the Fund and some of their personnel based in Ghana.
Analysts propose that it would take at least 90 days for a programme to be agreed upon between the parties.

Details of the bailout programme and its conditionalities will all be announced after the meeting.
