NDC executives will meet with the Minority Caucus today to discuss leadership changes.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) national executives will meet with their Members of Parliament later today, after the party's leadership shift in the legislative chamber.

The meeting had been scheduled for January 31, 2023, however it was canceled due to an intervention by the party's Council of Elders.

The meeting was later rescheduled for today, Monday, February 6, 2023, in Parliament.

The meeting comes in the aftermath of the Minority's leadership turnover, which saw Haruna Iddrisu deposed as leader and replaced by Cassiel Ato-Forson.

Meanwhile, Abdul Jahlil Ateku, a political scientist, believes the meeting between the party leadership and the minority caucus is an opportunity for any concerns related to the change in leadership to be resolved peacefully.

"Looking at the scenario, the party leadership claims to have spoken with persons who claim there was none. This, I believe, is a chance to iron out the discrepancies. For them, that is the most essential thing right now. They debate the concerns and get the new leadership's backing."

Following a restructuring of its leadership by the NDC's national executives, there has been a schism among group members.

As part of the leadership changes, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, took over as Deputy Minority Leader from Ketu North MP, James Klutse Avedzi, while Kwame Governs Agbodza took over as Minority Chief Whip from Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak.

Despite the outrage that greeted changes in the NDC's leadership in Parliament, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the NDC, maintained the party is not fractured.

According to him, the NDC remains unified, and the reforms have been embraced by the majority of NDC members.

Some MPs signed a petition opposing the party's decision due to a lack of consultation. Another group of MPs petitioned the NDC leadership to disregard requests to undo the reshuffling.
