UG will 'vigorously challenge' an order on its outside residential policy.

The University of Ghana's administration has urged its attorneys to forcefully oppose an injunction obtained by certain Commonwealth Hall students attempting to halt the university's new residence policy.

The University noted in a statement that the injunction was obtained based on false information provided by the alleged students.

"Management of the University of Ghana has received a copy of an order for an injunction granted by the High Court, Commercial Division, Accra. This order was obtained by eight (8) people claiming to be Commonwealth Hall inhabitants.

"The injunction attempts to stop the University from executing a residential policy decision affecting continuing students of Commonwealth Hall. The University feels the order was obtained based on incorrect information. As a result, the University's attorneys have been directed to forcefully defend the University in court," portions of the university's statement claimed.

Meanwhile, the institution said it will put in place necessary steps to establish a suitable climate for teaching, learning, and research.

On October 26, 2022, UG urged ongoing Commonwealth Hall students to locate other housing off campus.

"All continuing students of Commonwealth Hall and continuing male students of Mensah Sarbah Hall will not return to these halls, or to any of the traditional halls. They will be assigned at random to available rooms in any of the UGEL and private hostels. Only Level 100 and graduate students (Masters and PhD level) will be allocated to Mensah Sarbah and Commonwealth Halls beginning with the 2022/2023 academic year. Subsequently, undergraduate students will exit the halls at the conclusion of Level 100 and may find lodging in private hostels from Level 200 till completion," UG administration stated.
