Ghana Gas saves $3 million each month when local engineers replace Chinese engineers.

The Ghana National Gas Company Limited has reported that its localized operations save the government around $3 million every month.

The State Company claims that since local engineers took over active operations from Chinese engineers, it has recorded considerable benefits that safeguard the national purse from unnecessary expenditure.

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the State agencies report, a press engagement platform organized by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Dr. Benjamin Asante, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited, urged stakeholders to create an enabling environment for the energy sector to thrive.

"We enjoy working with the Chinese, but we didn't want to be with them for too long. This plant's operations were taken over by Ghanaian engineers and personnel. I've been in this field for 31 years, and this is the first time I've seen such a reversal, with foreign operators handing over control to indigenous engineers and technicians in three years.

"While we're at it, we save $3 million every month because that's how much we pay the Chinese," he explained.

Dr. Asante also stated that his organization has so far begun on 152 projects around the country as part of its community outreach programs.

The projects, according to the MD, cover education, health, water and sanitation, sports, security, and roads, with the gas firm now working on 301 of them around the country, with the bulk of them at various stages of completion.

Dr. Asante told journalists on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the State of the Agencies Reports, a press engagement platform put together by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, that the reason for the massive project is to give back to society.

"Ghana Gas is one of the few firms that is really concerned about sharing everything we get with the communities in which we operate. We have completed 152 projects and are now working on another 301 that are in various states of completion. "We don't see why we shouldn't happily share what we get with the communities in which we operate," he added.
