Kofi Adams, a representative of the National Democratic Congress for the Buem Constituency, has refuted claims that the party intended to rig the election for a few particular candidates in light of the disarray that characterized Saturday's internal elections in the Central Region.
At the University of Cape Coast on Saturday, the NDC chose representatives to serve as the National Youth Organiser, the Women's Organiser, and their deputies.
Violence disrupted the election, which saw George Opare Addo and Dr. Hannah Bissiw maintain their respective posts. Some individuals were hurt as a result.
The University of Cape Coast campus shooting was denounced on Monday by the New Patriotic Party's youth section.
However, in a statement on December 12th, Kofi Adams said that the commotion was just the result of family members miscommunicating.
But he said that the reason the mayhem didn't occur was because the party officials planned to rig the election in favor of some particular party members.
"It is obvious that there would be misunderstandings when you bring together almost 2000 delegates and approximately 300 observers. Even in families where husbands and wives who have been together since saying "I do" occasionally have disagreements, let alone when you host delegates from other areas and racial and ethnic backgrounds for more than a day.
Mr. Adams said to presenter Umaru Sanda Amadu, "The misunderstandings didn't even happen in the conference room, they happened outside the premises...but we denounced it, and we condemned it before the NPP even condemned it."
