The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) plans to appeal the decision of the High Court in a defamation case that Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh brought against him.
Sammy Gyamfi was found to have defamed the Energy Minister when he stated at a press conference in June 2019 that "Seidu Yakubu, suspected of being involved in the kidnapping of the 2 Canadian girls in the year 2019, is the errand boy of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh," according to the High Court, Accra, General Jurisdiction 12, presided over by Justice Charles Gyamfi Danquah.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh was given a GH500,000 damage award by the court.
Additionally, it mandated that Mr. Gyamfi publish a clarification and apology.
In response to the ruling, the NDC Communications Officer claimed that the High Court erred since its conclusion conflicted with the evidence that was presented to the court.
More importantly, he claimed, "I believe that the court's decision to totally disregard the testimony of my witness, DW1, Mafus Jibril who testified that the said Seidu Mba was, in fact, the Plaintiff's errand boy and was in his company when he (DW1) was attacked in Manhyia sometime in 2012, constitutes a grave miscarriage of justice."
Mr. Gyamfi stated that to immediately contest the High Court's ruling, his attorneys will submit a "notice of appeal and a motion for a stay of execution." I believe justice will be carried out.
"It is important to remember that this is simply the court of first instance's ruling, and it is not binding. I'm determined to investigate this topic thoroughly, he continued.
